Resolution of Federation & PA.S.E.K.A

Adopted Resolution by the Federation & PA.S.E.K.A Conferences
Sydney, 27th February to 1st of March, 2015.

 

WHEREAS, delegates to the above Conferences gathered in Sydney between 27 February to 1st March 2015;

 

WHEREAS, the President of the Republic of Cyprus remains fully committed to achieve a just, viable and functional solution of the Cyprus problem. The settlement of the Cyprus problem should be based on UN Security Council Resolutions, the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979 and the values and principles of international and European law. An agreed solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with a single sovereignty, a single citizenship and a single international personality,

 

WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey continues to occupy almost 36.2% of Cyprus’ territory, a member State of the UN, the Commonwealth and of the European Union, in flagrant violation of the relevant UN Resolutions, the UN Charter and all recognised principles and norms of international law,

 

WHEREAS Turkey continues its policy of promoting the illegal secessionist entity in the occupied part of the Republic of Cyprus undermining the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus.

 

WHEREAS, Turkey continues to violate the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the people of Cyprus,

 

WHEREAS, the continuing usurpation and illegal exploitation of Greek Cypriot homes and properties in the occupied part of the Republic of Cyprus create additional obstacles to the efforts for a just and lasting resolution of the Cyprus problem,

 

WHEREAS, Turkey continues to act against Cyprus’ sovereign rights to explore and exploit the natural resources in its exclusive economic zone,

 

WHEREAS, Turkey continues to show its intransigent stance by not fulfilling its obligations towards the international community in the pursuance of a comprehensive, just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and the values and principles of international and EU law,

 

RESOLVED:

 

WE CONDEMN the continuing and illegal occupation of 36.2% of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus by Turkish troops, the illegal colonization and the continued looting and destruction of the religious and cultural heritage in the occupied part of the Republic of Cyprus as well as the illegal exploitation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas;

 

WE BELIEVE that a just, viable and functional solution to the Cyprus problem should be based on the principles of international law, the EU acquis communautaire and the principles upon which the EU is founded, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions on Cyprus and the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979;

 

WE APPLAUD the leadership, determination and continuing efforts of the President of the Republic HE Mr Nicos Anastasiades to reach a comprehensive settlement based on the UN Security Council Resolutions, for a bizonal, bicommunal federation with a single sovereignty, single citizenship and single international personality, and with political equality as set out in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions;

 

WE CALL UPON the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community to re-engage constructively and to abandon negative positions which create obstacles in the efforts for the reunification of Cyprus to the benefit of all its people;

 

WE CONDEMN the Turkish provocative & illegal actions against the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus to explore and exploit the natural resources in its exclusive economic zone in accordance with international law, in particular the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea;

 

WE DEMAND the immediate and unconditional implementation by Turkey of all UN resolutions on Cyprus, the withdrawal of its occupation troops and settlers, the return of all refugees to their homes in safety, the full and effective investigation of the fate of all missing persons, respect for the human rights and fundamental rights of all Cypriots as well as for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Cyprus;

 

WE REQUEST the international community and especially the members of the UN Security Council, convey a strong message to Turkey that it expects her to genuinely support a settlement of the Cyprus problem in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions on Cyprus;
